This started as a speed painting a while ago and I have been trying to bring it to the next level.
I am trying to figure out a process for introducing color that I am comfortable with. This is just a start but I thought I would throw it up here anyway.

just a start? I really like it! I almost wonder if u should stop where u are, I really like the simplicity of the background contrasting with the detail of the foreground, the limited ranges of shades and color are really cool to me too! I dont think u need to take it farther, bur who knows, maybe you will make it even better, I dunno, I just would really hate to lose some of the cool things u have behind a mass of detail. Also, I always point this out, but u are like the nicest happiest guy, with the darkest, most scary looking artwork :P
i just realized something, I was looking at your pic wrong, I keep reading the arm on our right as a leg stepping forward, and his back leg as his arm carrying an axe, after looking at it again i realized its not a quodroped, so maybe seperate the back leg more?
I really like the way to lay down areas of flat tone and color. You don't over-render things, a skill that is hard to achieve. I like this guys creepy torqued pose. I agree with Dom that the lighting on his forearm is confusing with his back leg. You should maybe pop the lighting on the front a bit more to help push the back leg into the background.
I will do that. Thanks for pointing that out. It's hard to see that sort of thing when you are working on an image for a while.
