Wii Character Concept Challenge

So there's this competition going on over at Gameartisans. This is my frist idea for a character I plan to model, texture, and hopefully animate. Anyways, the basic idea is that he's a possessed boy looking for his parents and he's got this little ghost helper floating around with him. I'm not 100% sold on the concept. I've been told by several artist that I need to push the shapes more, so I'm going to make a couple of passes of him with more exaggerated proportions or something. But I kinda also think the general look of him is a bit plain. If you guys have any suggestions or crits I'd love to hear them....

Wii contest character

I'm probably going to take another pass on this after I have some time away from it. For the concept I tried to think about what sort of game mechanics would be fun. The idea is that he uses his staff as a weapon and as a tool to get around. He could do pole vault jumps, pole vault kicks, and there could be holes in the wall where he could jab the staff into and then use it to jump up higher. The game would be fast paced and focus on athletics and acrobatics (think of Prince of Persia but faster).
